Please donate generously to the Victorian Nurses Welfare & Hardship Fund

October 26th, 2007

Nurses have successfully protected and improved Victoria’s mandated minimum nurse patient ratios and achieved competitive wages that will keep nurses nursing in this state.

Nurses become nurses because they want to make a difference and care for the ill, the injured, the elderly and the frail. Only nurse patient ratios allow nurses to deliver this level of care and the Victorian community is the winner from this agreement.

The fantastic success of this campaign has come with a significant personal cost to thousands of Victorian nurses. As a result of taking industrial action nurses have lost a substantial amount of pay with many losing more than half their pay.

Under the Howard Government’s WorkChoices laws it is illegal for ANF to ask the Victorian Government to repay the docked wages. ANF has established a fund to assist nurses who find it difficult to meet their financial commitments as a result of fighting for a better health system.

Please donate generously so ANF can care for the nurses who care for you.

The Australian Industrial Relations Commission has granted the Victorian Government’s section 496 orders under the WorkChoices laws to stop the Victorian nurses’ industrial action.
